Staycation Idea For Your Spring Break!

With Spring Break here for many of you and just around the corner for others we thought it would be good to share a few ideas we've done in the past with our families.

This first post is about what our family is going to do again this year for Spring Break.  We did this a couple of years ago and our whole family really loved it!  We called it "A Trip Around the World"!  Here's what you do:

1. Ask your kids in advance for some places they would like to visit.  Make it fun, exotic, & exciting... we did Jamaica, India, Puerto Rico, Thailand, & Greece last time.

2. Do your research.  Go online and find out all you can about the cultures, cuisine, traditions etc.  I did this without the kids so I could organize a little before presenting it to them.  I found the flag, interesting facts and picked out a meal that we could make together and share at dinner time that was from that Country.  Go shopping for the week and get all the items you'll need for your meals.

3.  Each day we would focus on a different Country.  We made mini flags for the Country of the day, played dress up, played games that were favorites of the children in that country.. i.e. futbol (soccer), baseball etc.  Then in the afternoon we would begin to prepare dinner the kids LOVED this part of the day!  We actually still use a lot of the recipes we tried out that week in our weekly menus!  It was so fun and they loved sharing with their dad what they learned about each Country over dinner!

This was such a hit in our house that it has been requested again for this years Spring Break!  I am going to start the planning this week!  Let us know if you decided to give it a try even if only for a day or two!

Happy Spring to all of you!
